Staff
Payroll only covers the players. Teams also decide how many coaches, analysts, scouts, trainers and staff to hire, and that's a big part of what they spend outside payroll. Each number here has one source, and the notes say which.
Front office
Everyone in baseball operations outside the coaching staff, by area. Analytics comes from an outside count of all 30 teams. The other areas are people listed in each team's directory or media guide, sorted by job title.
These counts are incomplete, and some are probably wrong.
No team publishes a full, current count of its staff, so we built these from what teams list. 11 teams' numbers come from their online directories as of Oct 20, 2026. The other 19 come from 2026 media guides printed in March, which miss anyone hired since. 14 of those guides are scanned copies uploaded to the Internet Archive by someone other than the team, and a few names in them were unreadable.
We read every list and sorted each person into an area by job title. That's our judgment, not the team's, so expect counts to be off by a few people either way. Where a source skips an area entirely, it shows as unknown and the total is a minimum (≥). Where we know a source leaves people out, the count is marked likely low: Angels, Braves, Guardians, Orioles, Tigers, Twins, White Sox, Yankees. Use these to see big differences between teams, not small ones.

Marks: * estimated, † modeled by DugoutIQ. About labels Analytics: full-time analytics and R&D staff, counted by Zack Scott, Four Rings Consulting from team websites, media guides and Baseball America's directory, Oct 19, 2026. Cubs: Corrected from 25 on Oct. 19. The Cubs don't publish a full R&D directory. Areas other than analytics are people listed in each team's staff directory, sorted by job title: 11 teams' online directories as of Oct 20, 2026, and 19 teams' 2026 media guides, printed in March. Anyone the analytics count would include is left out of the other areas so no one is counted twice. A ≥ means the source skips at least one area, so the total is a minimum. "Low" marks a count we know misses people; hover it or see the team's page for why. Each team's page names its source and what it leaves out. How we count

Reported. Counted from MLB's coaching lists for Aug 1, 2026, when every level was in season (MLB Stats API). Major league counts include the manager. Teams decide who goes on these lists, so some include more support coaches than others. Bullpen catchers and batting practice pitchers aren't counted. Rookie covers the complex and Dominican Summer League teams. A coach who worked at two levels counts once in the minor league total.
